Sunderland fans largely appear to be against the idea of signing Stewart Downing.
However, Black Cats supporters feel that Downing would not be a smart addition.
The former England international is now 34, and only had a limited impact at Boro last season.
And Sunderland fans feel that they should be targeting younger additions now.
If this is true shows Jack Ross has learnt nothing from what we saw last season— Paul 'boo' Scott (@theboovont) June 4, 2019
He's past his best. What we need is a young good team. We already have seniors like Leadbitter, Catts etc so need to develop a team for now and the future— Simon (@KingstonSi) June 4, 2019
No thanks bring the younguns through— stu (@stu070815) June 4, 2019
Wrong direction I think. He'd probably do a decent job, but would rather we went for someone who could be here long term and is able to grow with us, if we move up the divisons— Andrew Tonge (@tongey93) June 4, 2019
Good player but we need more pace on the wing and in full back areas and some more physicality/height through the spine. So for me I think I'd be giving that one a miss.— Sam (@SR19__) June 4, 2019
Nah, turned us down before (petty I know but still) and I really want us to target young, hungry, pacy players— Guinness Guzzler (@GuzzlerSAFC) June 4, 2019
We need pace in midfield and Downing is towards the end of his career so would be a backward step.— David (@DJBourne1976) June 4, 2019
Sunderland are on the hunt for players who can help them earn promotion back to the Championship this summer.
Jack Ross’s side fell just short over the past campaign, as they eventually lost in the play off final to Charlton Athletic.
If Downing was to arrive at Sunderland he would add competition for places out wide, with the Black Cats needing additions in attack following the expiration of Lewis Morgan’s and Kazaiah Sterling’s loans.
