Ray Parlour suggested on The Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast show on talkSPORT on Monday morning (9:52am, June 3, 2019) that West Ham United star Declan Rice would be a perfect signing for Manchester City, but not right now.
The Arsenal legend believes that Rice, who can operate as a central defender or as a defensive midfielder, will be a suitable successor to Fernandinho in the City team.
The Brazil international is one of the best defensive midfielders in the world, but the former Shakhtar Donetsk star is 34 years of age now.
Pep Guardiola’s side will need a replacement for Fernandinho in the next one or two years, and Parlour, who now works as a pundit for talkSPORT, believes that Rice would be a perfect candidate.
Parlour said about Rice on The Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast show on talkSPORT on Monday morning (9:52am, June 3, 2019): “For me, you have got to look at Fernandinho at Manchester City.
"He is not getting any younger. He is 34, 35 years old. So that could be a perfect fit for Declan if he keeps improving as he is, but maybe not just yet.”
The 20-year-old England international can only develop and get better in the coming years, and one should not be surprised if he ends up playing for Guardiola at City in the coming years.
