Celtic have missed out on Adam Maher.

Reported Celtic target Adam Maher has signed a deal with Dutch side Utrecht, Voetball Primeur reported.

De Telegraaf had claimed last week that Celtic were keen on a move for the free agent.

On one hand, missing out on an attacking star on a free is a missed opportunity for Celtic.

On the other, Neil Lennon should not be too concerned at losing out on a player who has been highly inconsistent over the past few seasons.

Maher turns 26, and it is a long time since he burst onto the scene as PSV and attracted attention from some of Europe’s top clubs.

His best season at Eindhoven came back in 2014/15, when he scored seven goals and provided five assists.

He has never bettered these figures in either category since.

Maher eventually left PSV for Turkish side Osmanlispor, before heading back to Holland.

Last season he scored just one goal, and managed five assists.

Celtic should be looking at a more productive player, and not one with Maher’s inability to settle or be consistent. Missing out is no major loss to them.
