Premier League bound Villa announced that McCormack is to leave the club after signing a variation agreement.
Aston Villa have announced that Ross McCormack is to leave the Premier League bound club.
The 32-year-old made only 24 appearances for Villa since joining the club in a £12m move from Fulham in 2016 and scored just three times in 20 league appearances (BBC Sport).
McCormack was sent out on loan to four different clubs during his three years at Villa Park and has not featured for their first team since playing in a League Cup game in September 2017.
The forward still had 12 months remaining on his contract and reportedly stood to receive a wage increase following Villa’s promotion to the Premier League but an agreement was reached for him to join another club on a free transfer this summer.
Villa confirmed McCormack’s departure with a short statement on Monday which read: “Aston Villa can confirm Ross McCormack is to leave the club after signing a variation agreement. The club would like to wish Ross well for the future.”
The news was met with pretty much universal acclaim by the Villa faithful, little surprise given McCormack’s largely fruitless stint at the club, and some took to Twitter to voice their thoughts:

Villa have now released nine players since they won promotion to the Premier League with victory over Derby in last week’s Championship playoff final.
