The ex-UK prime minister says he’s a Villa fan but once appeared to urge support for West Ham.

Aston Villa legend Ian Taylor has shared a video from the Championship playoff final which shows wild celebrations in the stands and some supporters have spotted – and commented on – the presence of a celebrity ‘fan’.

Dean Smith’s charges enjoyed a superb latter-season run in the league from March onwards as they surged up the table and into the top six, holding tight to secure a playoff place and subsequently overcoming West Bromwich Albion to book a spot in the Wembley showpiece.

On Monday 27 May, Villa’s return to the Premier League was confirmed as they ran out 2-1 winners over Derby County, and as a Villans legend, Ian Taylor was obviously delighted with how the day panned out.

Taylor took to Twitter to share the “footage you’d forgotten you’d filmed a week ago” after going through his phone and tagged a celebrating Adil Ray:

A number of Villa fans commented on the apparent presence of David Cameron, the former UK prime minister, who has long claimed to be a fan of the West Midlands club, except for one moment in April 2015 ahead of that year’s general election where he seemingly appealed for people to cheer on West Ham United.
