Pontus Jansson has predicted that Leeds United have an 'incredibly exciting' year ahead after signing up Marcelo Bielsa for another season.

Leeds announced last week that Bielsa would be staying in West Yorkshire for the 2019-20 campaign following speculation that he could quit the Whites.

The Argentine led United to a third-placed finish in the Championship last term after alternating between the top two places for so long, though Derby County ruined their promotion dream last month.

Bielsa's side are the early favourites for automatic promotion next term, and centre-back Jansson has told Swedish outlet Fotbollskanalen that a promising year lies ahead for the Elland Road club.

He said: "It means a lot to the club [that he is staying], he has changed the club in every way, both on and off the pitch, especially on [the pitch].

"If you check statistically, as Bielsa loves, we were top two guaranteed, but there were small details that made us unable to do so [win promotion].

“Now he gets another year and the players who are left know what it is about now. It will be an incredibly exciting year for Leeds.”

Reinforcements are key for the Whites.

Injuries plagued them for so long last season, to the point where it's a minor miracle that they came so close to promotion.

But it's a thin squad and one in dire need of fattening up.
