Aston Villa must have been impressed by Michael Hector’s displays for Sheffield Wednesday last season.

Sheffield Wednesday's Michael Hector

Aston Villa should consider moving for Michael Hector, in a move which would frustrate their former boss Steve Bruce at Sheffield Wednesday.

Hector spent last season on loan at Wednesday, and Bruce has already told BBC Sport that his side are trying to get the centre-back to return to Hillsborough on a permanent transfer.

However, Hector’s performances at Championship level suggest that he may well have a future at a higher standard, and Villa should take note of his availability.

Dean Smith’s side need at least two new centre-backs this summer, with Axel Tuanzebe, Kortney Hause and Tyrone Mings all only on loan at Villa Park last summer.

Mings may well return, but Smith still needs another starting centre-back and Hector could fill that void.

The 26-year-old is currently at Chelsea, but appears to have no first-team future.

If Hector was to join Villa he could be a great fit for Smith’s side, as he is comfortable in possession but also rock solid defensively.

If Villa put together Mings and Hector in the centre of their defence then they would have two of the outstanding players in last season’s Championship lining up for them.

And Villa should give serious consideration to the Jamaican international, as he could offer them just what they are looking for.
