Tottenham Hotspur were beaten by Liverpool in the Champions League final.

Alan Shearer suggested that three Tottenham players didn’t show up against Liverpool in the Champions League final on Saturday night, when writing his regular column for the Sun.

Spurs were far from their best against the Reds, and eventually lost the game 2-0, fluffing their lines of the biggest stage of them all.

Further questions will now be asked of Mauricio Pochettino and his Tottenham players, as their 11-year wait for a major trophy continues to rumble on.

Spurs will now have to regroup and go again next season, but it is clear to see that Pochettino’s squad needs some real investment this summer, if they are to complete for major trophies.

Tottenham quite simply didn’t show up in Madrid, and Shearer singled out three players in particular who failed to perform against Liverpool, when writing his regular column for the Sun:

“Tottenham’s big players didn’t perform — Kane, Dele Alli and Christian Eriksen did not show up and they didn’t deserve to get back into the game. They basically carried on their league form, scraping into the top four after a poor finish.”

The key for Tottenham now will be not only to strengthen their squad, but also to keep their best players.

After Saturday’s poor showing, however, Pochettino might be more inclined to sell some of his stars than he was previously.
