West Bromwich Albion were reportedly hopeful of pulling off an ambitious move for Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder.

According to a report from The Sun on Sunday (2/6; page 60), Chris Wilder is set to dash West Brom’s hopes of pulling off an ambitious move for the Sheffield United boss by signing a new deal with the Blades.
Wilder is preparing his side for life in the Premier League after an outstanding season culminated in automatic-promotion out of the Championship.
But despite taking his boyhood club to English football’s top table, there had been a question surrounding his future at Bramall Lane. The Sun on Sunday (2/6; page 60) reports that the Baggies hoped to take advantage of the battle for control between the Blades’ owners and lure Wilder to the Hawthorns.
However, the report suggests that Wilder will put an end to any speculation surrounding his future by signing a one-year extension with Sheffield United and will be handed a £20 million budget for this summer.

It always appeared unlikely that the Baggies would be able to tempt Wilder away. But West Brom fans may be pleased that the club will soon be able to move on in their search for Darren Moore’s permanent successor.
Their chances of sealing promotion back to the top flight at the second time of asking are surely not being helped by the time it is taking to get a new manager in. And the supporters will probably be hoping that the reports surrounding Wilder prove to be the catalyst that leads to an appointment in the very near future.
