Everton's Mason Holgate should interest Celtic

Jonjoe Kenny and Mason Holgate arrive before the Premier League match between Everton and Leicester City at Goodison Park on April 9, 2017 in Liverpool, England.

Should Celtic take a serious look at Everton right-back Mason Holgate?

Rosenborg's Tunisian striker Issam Jebali (R) is booked for going down in the area after this challenge by Celtic's Swedish defender Mikael Lustig during the UEFA Europa League group B...

Celtic need a new right-back this summer and there may be one at Everton worth looking at.

Jeremy Toljan has returned to parent club Borussia Dortmund and long-serving Celtic star Mikael Lustig is out of contract this month.

Over at Everton, the Toffees are reportedly looking at Reece James as competition for Seamus Coleman [The Sun] in a transfer that would probably make Mason Holgate surplus to requirements.

And the Hoops should certainly take a look at the 22-year-old.

Holgate was an ever-present figure in a West Bromwich Albion side that reached the Championship playoffs last season, starting 21 games after joining in January.

He might not be what Everton are looking for long term, but he could be a fine addition to Celtic in the Scottish Premiership, where the standard is lower.

Holgate, who joined the Goodison Park side for £2 million in 2015 [The Echo], is young, quick and, most importantly, available....probably.

If Everton want James, they will certainly listen to offers for Holgate - who can also play centre-back - and Celtic should be in the queue.

Even if Lustig stays, he turns 33 this year. A younger, quicker player is needed whatever happens.
