Sadio Mane revelation

Liverpool winger Sadio Mane has told The Mirror that Manchester United wanted to sign him before he left Southampton.

Mane joined Liverpool from Premier League rivals Southampton in the summer of 2016 for a transfer fee reported by BBC Sport to be worth £34 million.

The 27-year-old winger has established himself as a key figure at the Reds and is also one of the best attacking players in the world.

The Senegal international has revealed that Manchester United wanted to sign him before he made the move from Southampton to Liverpool.

Mane told The Mirror regarding United’s interest in 2016: “Yes, I was really, really close because I even met up with them. So I was coming, I was there and I spoke with the boss who was there before (Van Gaal).

“They made an offer, but in the same week, Klopp called me. He said: ‘I think it’s the right club. The right coach for me, and I think it’s better that I go to Liverpool’. For me I think it was the right time as well. I said, ‘I am going to Liverpool’.”

Sergio Ramos future

Liverpool and Manchester United are also reportedly battling for Real Madrid central defender Sergio Ramos.

According to AS, the Reds and the Red Devils are interested in signing Ramos from Madrid in the summer transfer window.

The Spanish publication has claimed that the Reds and the Red Devils have made contact.

However, Ramos, who is one of the best central defenders in the world and is a serial winner, has stated that he does not plan to leave Madrid and wants to stay at Los Blancos for the rest of his career.

BBC Sport quotes Ramos as saying: “It is true that I have an offer from China on the table, I will not lie about it. My dream is to retire here."
