Aston Villa forward Christian Benteke has been struggling for form at Crystal Palace recently.
Aston Villa’s promotion back to the Premier League may give them a chance of bringing Christian Benteke back.
Villa may well be an ideal move for Benteke, who looks desperately short of confidence.
The Belgian striker hit 49 goals in 101 appearances for Villa during his first stint with the club, which lasted between 2012 and 2015.
During that time Benteke played his finest football in England, but he looks a shadow of his former self right now.
The 28-year-old looks bereft of confidence in front of goal, and has just four goals to his name over the last two seasons.
Villa supporters have been keen to see Benteke back at Villa Park for some time now, but his wages have proven prohibitive in any move.
Benteke is on £130,000-a-week at Palace, according to the Daily Mail, and taking on that sort of salary was just not viable for a Championship club.
Villa’s promotion to the Premier League means that they now can set their sights much higher though.
And with Palace said to be considering offers of £15 million for the forward (Times), Dean Smith should give serious consideration into bringing Benteke back to Villa.
