Tottenham Hotspur will be preparing for a busy summer transfer window.

Tim Vickery has suggested that Mauricio Pochettino could reunite with Barcelona star Philippe Coutinho at Tottenham Hotspur this summer.

The South American journalist stated that Coutinho’s relationship with the Nou Camp supporters has ‘broken down’ as the ‘logical’ place for him to come would be the Premier League.

During his younger days, Coutinho played under the management of Spurs boss Pochettino at La Liga side Espanyol before they both left for England’s top-flight.

Speaking to Sky Sports News (29/05/2019 at 10:45 am), Vickery stated that with Coutinho seemingly set to leave Barcelona, a surprise move to Tottenham could potentially be on the cards.

“There are two problems [with Coutinho],” Vickery told Sky Sports News. “One is they signed him as an Iniesta replacement. And he’s not. He was signed for a role that he was not fit for.

“Also with Suarez losing a bit of pace. That front three. That’s why Dembele is ahead in the pecking order. If you can’t see him fitting into the midfield three and you can’t really see him fitting into the front three and his relationship with the supporters has broken down. How much of a loss are they [Barcelona] prepared to take to offload him?

“The most logical place for him to come surely would be the Premier League. He did very well with Liverpool. But just remember that relationship he had with Pochettino at Espanyol. Is there a little light flashing there?”

Coutinho made a £142m move from Liverpool to Barcelona during the January transfer window of 2018 [BBC Sport], but he hasn’t found his feet at the Catalan club.

Considering Tottenham’s current financial position and the fact that they haven’t signed a player for the previous two transfer windows, a player like Coutinho walking through the doors would surprise many.

On his day, Coutinho can cause problems for many teams, and Tottenham aside, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see Coutinho leave Barca and make a return to England’s top-flight.
