Aston Villa are reportedly interested in Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips following their promotion to the Premier League.

According to a report from the Daily Mail, Aston Villa have Leeds midfielder Kalvin Phillips on their radar as Dean Smith begins to prepare his side for their return to the Premier League.

The Villans became the final team to book their spot in next season’s top flight by winning the Championship play-off final on Monday, with a 2-1 victory against Derby at Wembley.

If they can keep the majority of their loan players, it appears that Villa have a fantastic chance of marking their first year back at the highest level with an impressive campaign. But it is no surprise that Smith has his eye on potential signings.

The Mail reports that Smith is keen to land young, hungry players, and that has led to Villa taking a look at the Leeds star, who enjoyed an outstanding year in the second tier.

Phillips has been transformed since being moved into the holding role by Marcelo Bielsa. Some Whites fans will argue that he has established himself as perhaps the most important player in Bielsa’s system, acting like a quarterback.

Given his importance and how difficult it will be to replace Phillips, Leeds will not make it easy for any team to lure the academy graduate away from Elland Road during the coming months. But if Smith believes that he could become as important at Villa, then he will definitely want to find out what would it take to get a deal done.
