West Ham United will reportedly let Fernandes join Bundesliga outfit Mainz as Pellegrini raises funds for Everton loanee Andre Gomes.

Edimilson Fernandes is set to bring an end to his disappointing spell at West Ham United, with the Sun claiming that he has agreed terms ahead of an £8 million move to Bundesliga outfit Mainz 05.

West Ham signed a little-known midfielder in a £5 million deal from FC Sion in the summer of 2016 but he struggled to impose himself at the London Stadium, particularly when Slaven Bilic was sacked midway through his second season at the club.

Fernandes was loaned out to Fiorentina last summer and he appeared to relish a fresh start in Serie A, making 23 league starts for La Viola.

But instead of joining Fiorentina on a permanent basis, The Sun reports that the 23-year-old is on his way to Germany instead with Mainz set to conclude an £8 million deal.

The versatile Fernandes, who can play at full-back as well as in the centre of midfield, is apparently on the verge of sealing his move to the Opel Arena having agreed to the terms of the switch.

The Sun adds that an £8 million windfall will help West Ham manager Manuel Pellegrini in his pursuit of Andre Gomes, who has become the Chilean’s number one target.

The Hammers have already seen an £18 million bid rejected by Barcelona for the playmaker who spent last season on loan at Everton.
