David Marshall has been linked with Premier League giants Liverpool despite conceding 60 Championship goals for Hull City in 2018/19.

It is not easy finding a player who is willing to sit on the bench and make the odd appearance in the FA Cup third round or the Carabao Cup every few months.

And with Simon Mignolet understandably growing tired with life out of the team at Liverpool in the prime years of his career, Jurgen Klopp and co have a rather unique challenge ahead of them – signing a reliable, experienced back-up goalkeeper who is only too happy to play the most minor of roles in the first-team picture.

Goal reported that outgoing West Ham bench-warmer Adrian has been discussed. But the Scottish Sun threw an even more surprising name into the frame over the Bank Holiday weekend – Hull City veteran David Marshall.

The report claims that the Champions League finalists are keen to snap up the 34-year-old on a free transfer.

And the Hull fans have been left suitably baffled. Marshall, after all, has struggled to cover himself in glory during his time at the KCom Stadium and conceded 60 goals in the Championship last season.

Liverpool would represent a massive step up – even if he would spend much of his Anfield career on the sidelines.
