According to The Mirror (print edition, page 82, Saturday, May 25, 2019), Jonjo Shelvey will leave Newcastle United if he is not guaranteed more playing time.

Stats

Shelvey made only 10 starts and six substitute appearances in the Premier League for Newcastle this season, scoring one goal and providing one assist in the process, according to WhoScored.

During the 2017-18 campaign, the midfielder made 25 starts and five substitute appearances in the Premier League for the Magpies, scoring one goal and providing three assists in the process, according to WhoScored.

Leaving Newcastle United

Shelvey has been on the books of Newcastle since the summer of 2016 when he joined from Swansea City in January 2016 for a transfer fee reported by BBC Sport to be worth £12 million.

The former Liverpool midfielder has played well for the Magpies, but this season, he did not feature prominently in Rafael Benitez’s side.

The 27-year-old is a very good player, and he will have interest from a number of clubs in the Premier League if he decides to leave.

It is going to be hard for Newcastle manager Benitez to guarantee Shelvey regular playing time next season.
