EA giving The Sims 4 away for free possibly means that a new expansion pack is arriving for June 2019.

The Sims 4, the latest installment in the popular life-simulation series, is completely free to download right now on EA’s Origin platform.

EA is giving the standard version away for free until May 28, but the Digital Deluxe version is a part of the free game library for Access subscribers.

With the charitable giveaway being so sudden and close to EA Play, does the timing mean a new expansion pack will arrive for June 2019?

How to download The Sims 4 for free

To download The Sims 4 for free, you’ll need to follow the steps below:

  • Download the EA Origin PC app and sign into your account (or register for one)
  • Go to the My Home tab and select the Free Sims 4 promotion (offer only lasts until May 28)
  • Select the standard version of Sims 4 and follow the on-screen instructions to download the game
  • Once the game is downloaded and installed, you can start being the master of puppets by opening the My Game Library tab and clicking the Sims 4

Even if you’re not a PC gamer or particularly fond of EA’s Origin platform, this limited-time deal is still worth taking advantage of.

The Sims series is one of the most charming and accessible video games on the market thanks to its plethora of options and the way it allows you to be a mischievous God.

Why is The Sims 4 free?

The Sims 4 free deal was announced on Twitter by the series’ official Twitter account, and the announcement was swiftly followed by a cryptic tweet from the game’s GM, SimGuruLyndsay.

Lyndsay proceeded to further tease fans by saying that she’s working on two presentations in preparation for EA Play. This has naturally resulted in the Sims community believing that a new expansion pack is imminent.

The Sims team had already announced in April that an expansion and game pack would arrive within the next six months, and last year’s the Seasons expansion was announced just two weeks before EA play. Plus, there has been a ton of clues that suggest new content will arrive in June 2019.

It’s impossible to guess what the expansion could be as the rumours about tropical content similar to Paradise Island was debunked earlier this month.

But, regardless of what it could be, the arrival of a new expansion is likely why EA is giving The Sims 4 away for free; it’s a chance for the publisher to get even more people hooked and invested in the series to buy additional content and cosmetics.
