The Rangers legend believes that the 25-year-old Scotland international central midfielder McGregor is good enough to play anywhere.
Ferguson wrote in The Daily Record: “McGregor is such a good player he can play anywhere but, again, I think he does his very best work further up the pitch.”
McGregor is one of the best central midfielders in the Scottish Premiership and has been in superb form for Celtic this season.
The 25-year-old made 33 starts and two substitute appearances in the Scottish Premiership for Celtic this season, scoring three goals in the process, according to WhoScored.
The Scottish central midfielder also played four times in the Scottish League Cup and twice in the Scottish Cup this campaign, according to WhoScored.
Celtic have already clinched the Scottish Premiership title and the Scottish League Cup this season, and the Hoops have also reached the final of the Scottish Cup.
Neil Lennon’s side will take on Heart of Midlothian at Hampden Park in Glasgow in the final of the Scottish Cup on Saturday afternoon.
If the Hoops win, then they will clinch the domestic treble for the third season in a row.
