Everton have reportedly been offered the chance to bring Marseille midfielder Kevin Strootman to the Premier League from Ligue 1.
Could Goodison Park play host to an emotional reunion between Marcel Brands and Kevin Strootman this summer?
According to Sky Sports, Marseille need to cut costs after missing out on a place in the Champions League and have taken to offering their £23 million midfielder around to clubs in the Premier League.
Everton, West Ham and Manchester United have been offered the chance to sign Strootman, who is now 29 years of age, on loan for the 2019/20 season.
And Brands might find such an opportunity too good to turn down. After all, Everton’s director of football knows just how talented the Dutch powerhouse is.
Brands was working at PSV Eindhoven in Holland when Strootman made his name, establishing himself as one of the most coveted and promising young midfielders anywhere in European football.
And the esteemed talent-spotter almost sounded like a broken man when forced to accept a big-money bid from Roma for his prized asset in 2013.
“We didn’t want to lose Strootman, but we have decided to accept AS Roma´s offer. It is one of the most lucrative transfers in the history of PSV,” Brands admitted to the PSV website, failing to hide his disappointment.
But could a reunion be on the cards, six years later?
