Sony says Tom Holland's Uncharted Movie is in “advanced development”

Uncharted 4 Nate And Elena

The chairman and CEO of Sony Pictures Entertainment says the Uncharted movie starring Tom Holland as Nathan Drake is in "advanced development".

Sony Interactive will begin adapting a bunch of their properties for movies and television, and an Uncharted movie starring Tom Holland well before the events of A Thief’s End is said to be moving along.

The Uncharted movie has been in development for years, but nothing has ever materialised as director after director have left the project.

The Fighter’s David O’ Russell left the movie back in 2011 (I pity the universe that had to experience Mark Wahlberg as Nathan Drake), and Real Steel’s Shawn Levy removed himself in 2018 to direct Free Guy.

Uncharted 4 Nate And Elena 2

Tom Holland will be Nathan Drake

Sony has announced that they’re making a Twisted Metal TV series, and Sony Pictures Entertainment’s Chairman and CEO, Tony Vinciquerra, has mentioned that the company’s Uncharted movie is in “advanced development”.

The Uncharted film will be handled by PlayStation Productions and helmed by the director of 10 Cloverfield Lane, Dan Trachtenberg (a replacement The Last Of Us Part 2’s director, Neil Druckmann, finds exciting).

It’ll take place before Uncharted: Golden Abyss, meaning it’s a very early prequel that will star Tom Holland as a teenage Nathan Drake. The idea of an Uncharted movie doesn’t fill me with too much excitement, but it’ll no doubt be interesting to see if Nate’s introduction to Sully matches Drake’s Deception.

There have been some shenanigans surrounding the Uncharted movie as fans loathed the idea of Mark Wahlberg being Nathan Drake with a kid, and Joe Carnahan – an ex-writer for the troubled film – called Neil Druckmann a “jerkoff” for stealing credit for the series from Amy Hennig.

Fans have also wanted Nathan Fillion to play Drake for years, especially after the actor starred and impressed in his very own fan film.

Sony hasn’t mentioned a release date for the Uncharted movie and Tom Holland is currently the only casting known about, but – hopefully – we’ll find out more in the near future.

In other Uncharted news, Nolan North has said the series' ship has kind of sailed, yet a fifth installment could prosper without Nathan Drake
