According to the Chronicle, Newcastle United boss Rafael Benitez wants to keep Jacob Murphy.

Benitez is a big fan of Murphy and is still convinced that the winger can have an impact at St. James’ Park.

Newcastle loaned Murphy out in January, but his spell at West Bromwich Albion was not particularly remarkable.

However, Benitez still has faith that the £10 million winger (Chronicle) can come good and if the Spaniard remains in charge next season he plans on keeping Murphy around.

The news should be a boost to Murphy, who is now fighting to save his Newcastle career.

However, it is not yet certain that Benitez will stick around on Tyneside.

The popular manager is currently in talks with Mike Ashley, as they look to agree on terms to extend his current stay at Newcastle.

Benitez’s contract is due to expire in the coming weeks, but Newcastle are keen to keep him at St. James’ Park.
