Morelos might have scored a remarkable 29 goals in all competitions during Gerrard’s first season in charge at Ibrox but that does not mean that the Colombian international has the support of each and every Rangers fan.
A staggering five red cards highlights an ongoing discipline problem while some of The Gers’ better performances have come without Morelos in the starting XI, such as the recent 2-1 victory against Old Firm rivals Celtic when Jermain Defoe lead the line impressively in his absence.
And Smith, who starred for Rangers between 1977 and 1980, believes that the former HJK Helsinki forward should be sold despite the fact that he signed a new contract as recently as March.
“Rangers play with more fluidity when he is not involved, and this was proof positive,” Smith said.
“If the club receive a big bid for the Colombian in the summer, they should take it and use part of the funds to strengthen their squad.”
According to Sky Sports, Rangers will be looking for £20 million from any club looking to sign the South American hot-head with Borussia Dortmund and Leicester City apparently interested.
And Morelos continues to flirt with the exit despite seemingly committing his future to the club just two months ago.
