Some Leeds United fans have called on their club to sell Kemar Roofe this summer.
Roofe, who scored 15 Championship goals for Leeds last season, is entering into the final year of his contract.
The 26-year-old would therefore be allowed to leave for free in 12 months unless a new contract is signed between now and then.
But The Yorkshire Evening Post has reported that there is an impasse between Roofe and the Whites over salary demands, with the former Oxford United hitman wanting parity between himself and Patrick Bamford.
Roofe, who joined Leeds under Garry Monk in 2016, missed three months of last season and yet still finished as United's top goalscorer across all competitions.
But some fans of the Elland Road side feel that it is better to sell now rather than roll the dice and potentially lose him for free.
Sell him and buy someone who’ll give us 20+ goals? Don’t people realise Roofe missed a lot of the season and still got 15. With a full season we already have a 20+ player so why take the risk on looking for a replacement?— Tony Norman (@avnorm) May 21, 2019
Looking likely that Roofe is going to be the one funding this transfer window.— FocusOnLeeds (@FocusOnLeeds) May 21, 2019
Talk of Burnley interest in Roofe would #lufc sell him for Vydra in exchange or would Roofe be worth more now— Craig Hewitt (@cjlufc) May 17, 2019
Good, but not that good. Had better. Can buy better. Will buy better.— . (@LeedsYunited) May 21, 2019
Sell him now and get a proven 25 goal a season striker like Dwight Gale !— EastyBeasty (@RobEasty22) May 21, 2019
I'd sell him. He had half a good season & even if we did get promoted, wouldn't be premiership level. Also I reckon Jansson will be going. He's giving us the best years of his career & could probably walk into half the premiership teams. That should be about 20-25 million there.— Dave (@Dax1978Dave) May 21, 2019
Roofe has undoubtedly come on a lot since he first joined, and probably would have breached the 20-goal barrier for the first time last season if not for injuries.
But there are more ruthless centre-forwards out there and if Leeds receive a tidy offer, maybe the fans are right.
