The Hoops are looking for a permanent successor for Brendan Rodgers, who walked away to take over at Leicester City in February, and have been linked with a number of big names such as Claudio Ranieri, Laurent Blanc and Slaven Bilic.
But Mourinho has really captured the imagination. The former Real Madrid, Manchester United and Chelsea boss is looking to get back into the game this summer and, according to Gianluca Di Marzio, he has an offer on the table from Celtic.
Many have scoffed at suggestions that one of the most successful managers of the 21st century will be battling against the likes of Livingston and Hamilton next season but the report adds that Mourinho’s agent, Jorge Mendes, has a good relationship with the Celtic hierarchy.
And Petrov, who represented The Hoops between 1999 and 2006, believes links with the two-time Champions League winner are something to be proud of.
“I believe it’s an attractive job to someone of Premier League calibre. I’ve read Mourinho talking about the club and the fact he’s considering it shows how big a club Celtic is,” Petrov said.
“We should be flattered a manager of that calibre is looking at a club like Celtic.”
Celtic’s biggest challenge for Mourinho signature could come from PSG, who have been linked with the Portuguese for a number of years. Le Parisiens won the Ligue 1 title but coach Thomas Tuchel has come under fire for failing to retain either of the domestic cups, not to mention the Champions League collapse against Manchester United.
