According to a report in the Daily Mail, Manchester City are plotting a summer move for Leicester City’s Harry Maguire which could be of great benefit for Championship club Hull City.

It is claimed in the report that City could match Liverpool’s record £75 million deal for Virgil van Dijk as manager Pep Guardiola looks at potential replacements for Vincent Kompany following his exit from the club.

Maguire joined Leicester from Hull for a reported £17 million fee. The England international has gone on to become one of the top-flight’s best centre-backs, a situation Hull stand to benefit from.

The Tigers inserted a 15% sell-on clause when allowing the defender to join the Foxes. Should Maguire join City for a van Dijk-matching fee, Hull stand to net £8.7 million of Leicester’s potential £58 million profit.

Foxes manager Brendan Rodgers will be hopeful of keeping hold of the 26-year-old as Leicester seek to bridge the gap on the top six, but Hull on the other hand will be desperate for the player to leave.

A report in the Hull Daily Mail cites the Tigers’ financial troubles where they are in danger of losing key players such as Fraizer Campbell on a free this summer as they can’t afford to retain him on his current salary.

Hull’s financial troubles are further highlighted as hero Dean Windass is set to leave the club as ambassador this summer when his contract at the KCOM Stadium expires.
