Wolverhampton Wanderers are reportedly keen to land Salomon Rondon but could Everton beat them to the punch?
Wolverhampton Wanderers think they have one key advantage in the chase for Salomon Rondon while Everton have contacted the striker’s representatives, according to The Chronicle.
The Venezuelan is a man in demand at the start of the summer transfer window, having scored a career-best 12 Premier League goals during a superb loan spell at Newcastle United in the 2018/19 season.
Rafa Benitez would love to keep Rondon at St James’ Park but, with owner Mike Ashley reluctant to invest in older players, it seems unlikely that The Magpies will trigger the £16.5 million release clause in his West Brom contact.
And this has opened the door for a number of top flight rivals. West Ham are keen, The Chronicle claims, but Wolves feel they have an advantage after qualifying for the Europa League on Saturday as Watford were battered 6-0 in the FA Cup final against Manchester City.
Neither Newcastle, nor West Ham, will be playing in Europe next season.
Everton, meanwhile, cannot be discounted just yet with The Chronicle adding that Everton have made contact with Rondon’s agents. The 29-year-old is perhaps exactly the kind of physical, reliable goalscorer The Toffees are crying out for.
