Glasgow Rangers have made initial contact as they look to bring George Edmundson to Ibrox this summer.

According to a report from The Sun on Sunday (19/5; page 63), Rangers have made contact with Oldham regarding the availability of centre-back George Edmundson, but the Gers are not prepared to pay more than £500,000 for the youngster.
One of Steven Gerrard’s top priorities this summer will be to strengthen his defensive options, with both Joe Worrall and Gareth McAuley likely to not be at Ibrox next season.
Nikola Katic and Connor Goldson’s partnership has been a revelation in recent weeks. But Rangers certainly need to add more depth, and Edmundson is one player that they reportedly have their eye on.
The Sun on Sunday (19/5; page 63) reports that the Light Blues have made contact with the Latics in an attempt to steal a march on their rivals in the race for Edmundson’s signature.

But the report adds that the Gers are not currently willing to pay more than £500,000 for the youngster, while Oldham are hoping that an auction ensues to drive the price up.
Their plan would hint that Rangers may be underdogs in the race unless the other interested sides are similarly reluctant to engage in a bidding war for the 21-year-old.

It looks a smart strategy from Rangers to set their stall out. Edmundson boasts a lot of potential, but the Gers arguably need to focus the majority of their budget on players who are much closer to their peak and can make an impact as early as next season.
Edmundson appears to have every chance of being a brilliant signing for £500,000. But perhaps Gerrard is making a wise decision seemingly looking to save most of his budget for the marquee additions.
