Newcastle United will reportedly receive a boost in their quest to keep Sean Longstaff at the club.

According to a report from the Daily Mirror (19/5; page 63), Sean Longstaff has no plans to quit Newcastle despite interest from Manchester United, and will be rewarded with a ‘bumper’ new contract on Tyneside.

Longstaff may have only 12 first-team appearances for the Magpies under his belt, but there is a lot of excitement amongst the Toon Army about his potential after he proved to be a revelation in Rafa Benitez’s midfield during the second-half of this past season.

His form did not go unnoticed however, with the Daily Mirror (19/5; page 63) reporting that Manchester United are monitoring the 21-year-old ahead of a crucial summer at Old Trafford.

However, the Mirror adds that Longstaff has no intention of going anywhere, and is set to be handed a fresh deal at St James’ Park that will surely reflect his much more important role within the team.

Longstaff appears to have a serious amount of potential, especially with the Newcastle fans behind him, desperate to see him succeed and become a stalwart in the middle of the park for Benitez’s side for years to come.

And if, as expected, he decides to snub Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men to sign a contract with the Magpies – just as a certain striker famously did 23 years ago – his popularity will certainly ascend to new heights just as he returns from injury ahead of next season.
