Gomes' future appears to have become a key focus of the Toffees' summer after his superb year on loan at Goodison Park this past season. But the 25-year-old's form has attracted other admirers.
The Sunday Mirror (19/5; page 72) reports that Mauricio Pochettino is also keen on the £25 million-rated midfielder, who is unlikely to return to parent club Barcelona after struggling to hold down a spot at the Nou Camp.
And the good news for Tottenham supporters is that the report suggests that Gomes is thought to prefer the idea of moving to Spurs rather than return to Everton due to the prospect of playing in the Champions League.
Tottenham finished fourth in the Premier League so have ensured that they will be playing in the competition next year. And there is an opportunity for Pochettino's men to go into that as holders, with this season's final with Liverpool still a couple of weeks away.
It would be a coup for Tottenham if they could pinch Gomes from Everton this summer. He frequently turned out to be one of the best performers in Marco Silva's squad during his year on Merseyside, and it would be no surprise if he proved to be just as influential at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium if he made the move.
