Matt Reeves' Batman movie has generated discussion for quite some time now, but recently we've actually had updates that don't fall under the category of delays. The latest actor to portray the caped crusader was Ben Affleck, who was a controversial choice from the very start. Fortunately, he was one of the most praised elements of 2016's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, but in Justice League, his character felt criminally underutilised.
Hopes were high when it was announced that Matt Reeves would finally offer Affleck the chance to shine in a solo-venture, but it was later revealed that he'd be departing from the role. It's a shame that we were never able to see him excel in his own movie, but since then all fans have been thinking about is who his replacement will be. At the moment, it looks like Robert Pattinson (Good Time) is set to tackle the iconic role, which has proven just as divisive as the previous casting announcement.

Doubt has been expressed by many since the news, as it's been reported that Reeves is also considering Nicholas Hoult (Tolkien) for the part, with the project is yet to enter pre-production. Both are terrific actors, but Pattinson does seem like the more likely choice for the gig. The decision has been widely discussed since, but a report from The Hollywood Reporter has given us even more exciting news to digest, revealing that Catwoman and Penguin are set to make an appearance.
The source suggests that Penguin will be one of the main villains, but asserts that numerous antagonists could appear throughout the narrative. Hopefully, Reeves doesn't bloat the film with too many characters; we've seen this happen with disastrous consequences in the likes of Spider-Man 3 and beyond. Admittedly though, it's exciting to hear that Oswald Cobblepot (Penguin) and Selina Kyle (Catwoman) will appear, but who will be cast?

Such a question opens up the floor to personal preference, as there's no concrete way to predict who will fulfil either role. It's fun to make predictions, but there are two actresses who would be great choices for the role of Catwoman. First up, we have Ana de Armas, who has appeared in War Dogs, Knock Knock, Blade Runner 2049, and is also set to star in the forthcoming Bond 25. She has so much potential, but the Catwoman role would really provide her with a platform to shine and cement herself as a potential lead for future projects.
Then, there's Aubrey Plaza, who actually roleplays as the character in Ingrid Goes West to hilarious effect. She's a great actress and definitely has the charm to pull off one hell of a Catwoman. Both would be terrific choices, but Penguin is a little harder to consider.
The perfect Penguin casting doesn't really come to mind, but a shortlist of Jonah Hill (The Wolf of Wall Street), Emory Cohen (Lords of Chaos) and Josh Gad (Beauty and the Beast) could arguably all bring something unique and refreshing to the part. It's really exciting to anticipate who could join the project, but these performers are all really worthwhile suggestions and could each spotlight a different side to their creative potential. Let's hope the parts are confirmed soon; who knows, two of these could come aboard.
