Liverpool finished just a point behind champions City in second place in the Premier League table this season.
The Reds collected as many as 97 points, and the Merseyside outfit lost just once in the league.
De Bruyne - who is one of the best players in the world and has been on the books of City since the summer of 2015 when he joined from Wolfsburg for a transfer fee reported by BBC Sport to be worth £55 million - has said that he has no sympathy for Liverpool and believes that the Citizens were better than the Reds- comments which are not going to make him very popular at Anfield.
De Bruyne told Sky Sports: "It's a remarkable effort, but it means that we were just better than them in the end.
"I don't feel sorry for them because I don't think they'd feel sorry for us. I don't think anybody felt sorry about the way we went out of the Champions League. You take it.”
City have won the Premier League title, the League Cup and the FA Cup this season, while Liverpool have reached the Champions League final where they will take Tottenham Hotspur.
Liverpool reached the final of the Champions League last season as well, and the Reds will be determined to win it this time in Madrid on June 1.
