Chris Sutton has criticised Rangers fans and supporters of Celtic in The Daily Record.

The former Celtic striker believes that fans of the Hoops are too downbeat about their team despite having quite a successful season, having won the Scottish Premiership title and the Scottish League Cup and having reached the final of the Scottish Cup.

Sutton - who now works as a pundit for BBC Sport and BT Sport - has also suggested that Rangers are celebrating too much after Steven Gerrard’s side won the Old Firm derby against Celtic at Ibrox last weekend, with the Gers having not won any major silverware this season.

Sutton wrote in The Daily Record: “Rangers won six games on the bounce when it didn’t matter and it was hardly a Herculean feat overcoming a Celtic side that was already over the line in the league and with precious little left in the tank.

“I’ve never seen second place and no trophies celebrated
in Glasgow. The reaction has been way over the top – but not just from Rangers fans. Celtic supporters have gone way too far the other way as well.

"This weekend they will be presented with the Premiership trophy and then it’s the Scottish Cup Final and the chance to become the first side to win a treble Treble. Yet for some reason there is a huge swathe of negativity among some of them.

Sutton added: “Of course it’s disappointing to lose an Old Firm game but they should be enjoying these times for goodness sake. The way some of them have reacted, you’d think Celtic chucked away the league last week.”

Good seasons

Celtic have not exactly played great football in recent months, and the Glasgow giants’ European campaign also left much to be desired.

However, it cannot be doubted that the Bhoys have had a good season, and they could well complete the domestic treble for the third year in a row this month.

As for Rangers, while it is true that the Gers did not win any trophy, under Gerrard, the Gers played in the group stage of the Europa League and have also finished second in the Scottish Premiership table.
