Sunderland fans have criticised George Honeyman’s performance last night, even though they made it to the League One play-off final.
Honeyman has not always impressed Sunderland supporters this campaign, despite being handed the captain’s armband by Jack Ross.
The passionate midfielder helped Sunderland pick up the 0-0 draw they needed at Fratton Park to make it to Wembley.
However, Sunderland supporters have still not seen what Honeyman really offers to their side.
Honeyman and Power, what do either offer, genuinely.— Rich (@RichGarrattSAFC) May 16, 2019
Honeyman runs, I'll give him that, he's pathetic on the ball though. Too soft and is scared to head a ball. He's a chicken - a yellow belly!! #safc— WS (@Churchill1945) May 16, 2019
He is anonymous like and when he is on the ball he gives it away. He should bring honeyman off second half #safc— wearside wanderer (@clublimafoxtrot) May 16, 2019
Has Honeyman actually made a pass that hasn't gone straight to them yet?#safc— Jordan Ramsey (@RamseySAFC) May 16, 2019
Honeyman has been poor today— Liam Kennedy (@KennaSAFC) May 16, 2019
Thankfully for Honeyman Ross has always been a big fan of his, and has only spoken positively about the academy graduate.
Sunderland’s game with Portsmouth last night was not the easiest on the eye, but the Black Cats battled their way to Wembley.
Sunderland limited Pompey’s chances in the contest and ultimately proved the stronger side over two legs.
Sunderland will now go on to face either Doncaster Rovers or Charlton Athletic, as they seek an immediate return to the Championship.
