According to the Chronicle, Newcastle United are struggling to agree a potential trade deal with West Bromwich Albion for Salomon Rondon.

Newcastle and West Brom swapped strikers this season, and the deal worked out brilliantly for both clubs.

Rondon joined Newcastle on loan, while West Brom took Gayle on a temporary basis.

The strikers won their respective club’s Player of the Season awards, and there have been suggestions that their loan moves could be made permanent now.

In an ideal world, Newcastle may well just trade Gayle for Rondon with West Brom.

However, Albion’s failure to earn promotion has left Gayle pondering over whether he wants to move back to the Hawthorns.

Newcastle could also potentially offer West Brom Jacob Murphy, who also spent time with the Baggies this term.

However, Murphy was less successful at West Brom and at the moment they have no interest in signing him back.
