Middlesbrough have announced that Tony Pulis has left the Teesside club following their failure to gain promotion from the Championship.

The 61-year-old met with chairman Steve Gibson in the aftermath of the season (BBC Sport), in which the club finished a point adrift of the playoff places.

According to The Guardian, Boro do not expect to make an imminent announcement about a replacement but coach Jonathan Woodgate is thought to be under serious consideration.

The newspaper also claims that Steve Gibson is expected to consider alternative options including Chris Hughton, recently sacked by Brighton & Hove Albion.
