Matt Le Tissier has transfer advice for Southampton

Southampton will surely be looking to strengthen their options this summer.

Former professional footballer Matt le Tissier looks on during day fifteen of the World Darts Championship at Alexandra Palace on December 30, 2013 in London, England.

Matt Le Tissier urged Southampton to sign a new centre-back, a couple of right-backs and a striker this summer, when speaking exclusively to Sky Sports.

The Saints narrowly avoided relegation this season, and Ralph Hasenhuttl will undoubtedly have to spend wisely this summer, if he is to guide his team to a top 10 finish next term.

The Austrian made a big difference when he took over at St Mary's in December 2018, and Southampton seem to have the basic ingredients needed to kick on next season, although they will obviously have to bolster their ranks.

Quite who Hasehuttl will bring in this summer, however, remains to be seen.

And Southampton legend Le Tissier told Sky Sports what he would like to see happen at his former club this summer:

Matt Le Tissier answers questions during Gillette Soccer Saturday Live with Jeff Stelling on March 19, 2012 at the Bournemouth International Centre in Bournemouth, England.

"Where do we start? I would say they need to strengthen in the centre-back department and like most teams they need a goalscorer. Perhaps we could do with a couple in the right-back area as we will lose Cedric Soares this summer."

It is unclear as to how much money Hasenhuttl will actually have to spend this summer, but the Austrian will surely be looking to bring at least three new faces to Southampton.

The Saints have plenty of potential as a football club, but whether they are ready to make the step up to the next level is another matter entirely.
