Mauricio Pochettino’s Tottenham Hotspur will face Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool in the Champions League final this season.

Gary Lineker has suggested in The Times that Liverpool are favourites to win against his former club Tottenham Hotspur in the Champions League final this season.

Tottenham will take on Premier League rivals Liverpool in the final of the Champions League at Wanda Metropolitano in Madrid on June 1.

Former Spurs striker Lineker has explained why Liverpool will head into the game as favourites, and his choice to pick the Reds over Tottenham may surprise both sets of fans given that he is a former player of the North London club.

Lineker wrote in The Times: “Overall, team against team, they’ve got the better players. They finished 20-odd points ahead of Tottenham this season.

“So it’s hard to make a case where Tottenham are favourites. But, as we know in football, the best teams don’t always win, which is one of the things that makes it so special.”

Hard to call

Liverpool do have a better team than Tottenham, and having reached the final of the Champions League last season as well, Jurgen Klopp’s side will fancy themselves as favourites in Madrid.

However, Spurs have shown time and time again this season that they can defy the odds, and Mauricio Pochettino’s side cannot be taken lightly.

The Champions League final this season is too hard to call, and one should not be surprised if there is a fairytale story in Madrid with Spurs winning the trophy.
