A petition to remake the final season of Game of Thrones has reached over 750,000 signatures
To say Season 8 of Game of Thrones is dividing the show's fanbase is an understatement. In similar fashion to Star Wars: The Last Jedi, one half of the fanbase have thoroughly enjoyed the final season of the HBO show, myself included, while the other half are out for blood and want the final season remade to suit their tastes.
Just like The Last Jedi, a petition has been set up to put pressure on HBO to remake the final season and, at the time of writing, has amassed 775,000 signatures.
Now, I certainly can't deny that the eighth season of Game of Thrones has been a little lacklustre in places, the decision to cut the number of episodes has definitely hindered the final season and lumbered it with a number of pacing issues, but it's certainly not warranted the vociferous outcry from its viewers.
The episodes themselves have been some of the best in the whole show, David Benioff and D.B. Weiss are just asking fans to connect some of the dots themselves rather than explaining everything out.
Sure, a little extra character development here and there would've gone a long way to making Dany's turn to the dark side a little easier to stomach in the show's most recent episode but the signs have been there from Season 1 that she's not the flawless hero that many have made her out to be.
In similar fashion to The Last Jedi, fans seem to be disagreeing with the show's direction for certain characters, but the show and its writers, just like Rian Johnson's Star Wars movie, have stayed very true to what the characters have become over the past eight seasons. Viewers have just switched off somewhere along the line.
The reaction to Season 8 has been far too over the top to take seriously and just shows how spoilt people have become. It's obviously a shame that Game of Thrones has waned in quality slightly, that's something no one can deny, but the calls for Benioff and Weiss's head to roll is taking a little too far.
For one thing, we've still not seen the show's final episode which is set to broadcast this Sunday. It's definitely a wise idea to hold off judging the final season until we've seen the whole thing.
Is it too much to ask that we can all just enjoy the final few moments of this incredible TV show in peace?
