Burke, on loan from West Brom in the Championship in England, was in action for Celtic in the Old Firm derby against Rangers at Ibrox last Sunday afternoon.
The 22-year-old winger started the match and played for the entire 90 minutes, as Steven Gerrard’s side won 2-0.
The former Nottingham Forest winger did not play well in the match, and ex-Celtic striker McAvennie has strongly criticised him.
McAvennie said about Burke on Open Goal: “I thought the boy Burke was a disgrace, honestly.
"I thought for somebody, he is going to leave at the end of the season, and that’s one of the biggest games of the world, and you don’t show there.
"If it was me, I would be thinking, ‘I am not staying here, so I am going to go, so I want a good club’. On that performance, nobody is going to take him.”
Disappointing Celtic spell
Burke joined Celtic on loan from West Brom in the January transfer window when Brendan Rodgers - now the manager of Leicester City in the Premier League - was in charge of the Hoops.
The youngster started life at Celtic Park well and was deployed as a striker at times, but the 22-year-old has not been doing well for a while now.
Burke will return to his parent club West Brom after his loan spell at Celtic finishes at the end of the season.
