Max Lowe wants to stay at Aberdeen next season rather than join Rangers. At least, that is what Dons manager Derek McInnes has told the Daily Record.
Lowe has spent the 2018/19 season on loan at Pittodrie from Derby County and won the club’s Young Player of the Year award this week after a series of stand-out performances on the left-hand side.
The Daily Record reports that Rangers manager Steven Gerrard is very keen to bring the 22-year-old to Ibrox with the former Liverpool captain hoping for a favour from his one-time England team-mate Frank Lampard, the current Derby boss.
But it seems that Lowe has no intention of swapping Aberdeen for Rangers any time soon if McInnes is to be believed.
"Any players we have spoken to are well aware of my views and intentions here. We’d love to work with Max in the future and he’s expressed his desire to come back,” McInnes said when quizzed about Rangers’ interest in the highly-rated full-back.
Gerrard could certainly do with another option on the left of his defence. Jon Flanagan has looked all at sea at times while Borna Barisic’s form dipped alarmingly during the second half of a debut season disrupted by injury.
Andy Halliday, meanwhile, has impressed at left-back but he favours a central midfield role.
