Wolverhampton Wanderers forward Diogo Jota has taken to Twitter with a message for the club's fans following the conclusion of their first season back in the Premier League in which he won the Goal of the Season award.

The 22-year-old joined Wolves in the summer of 2017, initially on loan from Atletico Madrid, but a permanent deal with Jota was agreed the following January, being made effective on 1 July.

Jota registered an impressive 17 goals and eight assists in 44 Championship appearances (Transfermarkt) as the Molineux side were promoted as champions and he continued his good work into the top flight.

The ex-Atleti ace grabbed nine goals and five assists in 33 Premier League appearances, plus one goal and two assists in the FA Cup (Transfermarkt), as Wolves finished seventh in the top-flight table and reached the semi-finals of the latter competition.

One of Jota's goals saw him slot home from around 10 yards after a superb fluid passage of play involving Morgan Gibbs-White and Raul Jimenez (Wolves official Twitter clip of goal) to pick apart Cardiff City en route to a 2-0 win at Molineux in March.

The strike saw the Portuguese awarded the Goal of the Season accolade and he tweeted a message to the fans featuring a picture of him with the trophy:
