Tottenham Hotspur supporters have been left utterly perplexed at the rumours that they have joined the race to sign Newcastle United midfielder Issac Hayden.

The Chronicle has claimed that Spurs are a number of London-based clubs who are looking to secure the services of the 24-year-old midfielder.

The defensive-minded Hayden has been a key part as to why Rafa Benitez's side ended the Premier League campaign in a positive fashion.

Hayden moved to St James' Park from Arsenal during the summer transfer window of 2016 when Newcastle were a Championship club.

He played a regular role in the middle of the park and helped them earn instant promotion to England's top-flight and he has since helped them maintain their current status.

It may surprise some if Spurs do sign Hayden given the fact that they are playing Champions League football and looking to take that next step on the ladder.

Here is a selection of Tottenham fans on Twitter reacting to Hayden rumours:

Hayden has arguably been one of Newcastle's best players during the second half of the campaign and given his qualities, they will want to keep him.

There is no doubt that he is good enough for a team outside of the Premier League's top-six, whether or not he's good enough to make the step up will remain to be seen.
