Report: Liverpool ace Xherdan Shaqiri could be sold this summer

Xherdan Shaqiri of Liverpool warms up prior to the Premier League match between Liverpool FC and Wolverhampton Wanderers at Anfield on May 12, 2019 in Liverpool, United Kingdom.

The Liverpool winger has failed to live up to expectations at Anfield this season.

According to a report from the Daily Mail, Liverpool could sell Xherdan Shaqiri this summer, with Jurgen Klopp thought to be keen on freshening up his options.

The Switzerland international joined the Reds from Stoke City last summer, in a deal believed to be worth £13 million, according to BBC Sport, but he has failed to impress at Anfield, racking up just six goals and five assists in 30 appearances in all competitions.

To be fair to Shaqiri, however, he hasn't really been given many chances to impress at Liverpool, playing second fiddle to Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino.

And now the Daily Mail claims that the 27-year-old could be let go by the Reds this summer.

It doesn't mention how much Liverpool will expect for the winger's signature, but with four years remaining on his current deal at Anfield, they will likely demand a fairly substantial sum.

Shaqiri is obviously talented, however, and it might just be in Klopp's best interest to keep hold of him for at least another year, just to see whether he comes good at Liverpool.
