Marco Silva's assistant, João Pedro Sousa, could leave Everton to manage Famalicão, according to Record.
The Portuguese newspaper reports Sousa is the man chosen to succeed Carlos Pinto at the newly-promoted Primeira Liga side.
And it adds that while the contract is "not yet closed", "everything indicates that it should be consummated soon" and will see the Everton number two sign up until 2021.
Sousa has known Silva for more than 20 years, first encountering the 41-year-old when they were players at Trofense.
The 47-year-old later turned to coaching with Braga's Under-19s, and reunited with his former teammate at Estoril, Sporting Lisbon, Olympiacos and Watford before their move to Everton last summer.
According to Record, "ambitious" Famalicão are targeting a swift ascent to the Europa League under the Israeli tycoon, Idan Ofer.
The Braga-based side last played top-level football in the early 1990s.
Would Everton miss Sousa if he returned home this summer?
