HITC Sport understands a number of Football League clubs are eyeing moves for former Bristol Rovers goalkeeper Adam Smith on a free transfer.

Barnsley and Forest Green Rovers are among a number of clubs chasing goalkeeper Adam Smith on a free transfer this summer following his release by Bristol Rovers, HITC Sport understands from sources close to the club.

Smith is a free agent following the expiration of his contract at Bristol Rovers this summer and several clubs are considering moves for the former Leicester custodian.

Smith made just 10 appearances this season after finding himself playing a back-up role to first-choice goalkeeper Jack Bonham at Bristol Rovers and he is keen for a fresh challenge.

Newly-promoted Barnsley are considering their goalkeeping options during this summer’s transfer window in case they lose current No.1 Adam Davies.

Forest Green Rovers are also in the market for goalkeeping reinforcements ahead of next season with Lewis Ward returing to Reading after a successful loan spell at the League Two clubs.

6ft,5in keeper Smith started his career at Middlesbrough before joining Leicester, but he never made a first-team appearance for the Foxes having been sent out on loan on several occasions during his time at the club.
