Leeds United's promotion hopes disappeared in the most dramatic and agonising fashion.
Marcelo Bielsa's side will be playing Championship football again next season after the most incredible encounter at Elland Road, which the Rams won 4-2 on the night to go through despite losing 1-0 in the first-leg at the weekend.
Leeds had appeared to be in complete control of the tie as Stuart Dallas broke the deadlock to double their lead on aggregate. But a mix up between Kiko Casilla and Liam Cooper just before half-time allowed the visitors to equalise on the night and go into the break with a huge boost in belief.
And it did not take long for Derby to score once the players had returned for the second-half. And when Liam Cooper decided to bring Mason Bennett down inside the box, Harry Wilson put the Rams in front in the tie for the first time with just over half an hour to go.
But Dallas - who was Leeds' best player on such an agonising night - produced a moment of brilliance to level the tie just four minutes later. However, Gaetano Berardi was sent off for a second yellow card late on, and Derby scored what proved to be the decisive goal in the latter stages to stun Elland Road.
It was a defeat that is going to take a while to sink in for the Leeds fans, who have already endured so many different emotions in the final months of the campaign.
And the likes of Radebe and Bridges joined the Whites supporters in expressing their disbelief on social media after the result. But the Chief quickly attempted to look at the positives from the campaign, and he was joined by former Leeds striker Lee Erwin in making an uplifting prediction for next year.
Here is what some of the club's former players were saying on Twitter after the loss...
