Jadon Sancho, Rabbi Matondo, Keanan Bennetts and Reo Griffiths are just four young talents who have walked away from the Premier League in search of regular first-team football elsewhere in recent times.
And The Mail suggests that Liverpool starlet Bobby Duncan is also giving serious consideration to seeking a move away with the summer transfer window now open.
Duncan has scored 32 goals for Liverpool’s U18 side since joining from Manchester City last year, firing Barry Lewtas’ side to FA Youth Cup glory while establishing himself as arguably the most exciting teenage talent on Merseyside.
But, with Liverpool already boasting a star-studded frontline, The Mail claims that Duncan is worried about a lack of first-team opportunities despite the fact that Jurgen Klopp has a fine track record when it comes to giving youth a chance.
The report adds that the striker would even consider bringing an end to his time at Liverpool with a move abroad on the agenda.
Understandably, Liverpool fans are desperate to see Steven Gerrard’s cousin stay and follow in the former captain’s footsteps, warning Duncan that grass is not always greener elsewhere.
Stuff like this annoys me. He’s 17. He can’t expect to be in first team for what another two seasons? I may be speaking out of line but is this his agent pushing this? Liverpool have proved they’re a team who meshes experience with youth. Patience is the key for young players.— @cannyred (@cannyred) May 15, 2019
He is only 17!! What is the rush?— ME (@drbailey3434) May 15, 2019
He’s 17. If he is already thinking about leaving then let him go. Wrong mentality*— Sean McColl (@Sean_McColl) May 15, 2019
Caveat this story may not actually even be true given the newspaper source
A pathway into his future? He’s 17 ffs, what path does he expect?— Evans (@WJEVANS9) May 15, 2019
We can't let this kid go seriously?— Liam Hennelly (@HennellyLiam) May 15, 2019
He needs to keep his feet on the ground. 17 and wanting to play at top level? How many have failed? Patience is the key.— LuminouX (@herlilprince) May 15, 2019
That attitude ... there is the door !— Mike (@MikeyjnrTZ) May 15, 2019
Surely at 17 he can't be expecting to be playing first team games? Everyone is looking at Sancho and thinking they need to be on the world stage after leaving school. It's about development and once the time comes klopp will give you the oath as proven.— Terry (@Terry_LFC5) May 15, 2019
