Gamora could make it to Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 in wake of latest Russo reveal.

After James Gunn was struck from the project, the future of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 looked uncertain, to say the least. Fortunately, the director was rehired after a brief absence, during which he boarded a forthcoming Suicide Squad project for DC. So, it appears he’ll be batting for both Marvel and DC, which is great news for fans of his and, indeed, of wider superhero cinema.

Guardians of the Galaxy surprised so many of us back in 2014, as nobody really expected much from an adaptation of one of Marvel’s more obscure, lesser-known properties. Against all odds, it’s still widely considered one of the very best MCU efforts, which all began with 2008’s Iron Man. Since then, we’ve seen Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2. and are currently anticipating the third. After Avengers: Endgame, you’ll perhaps agree that there’s more reason to be excited now than ever.

The Russo’s had numerous arcs to wrap up at the end of their latest blockbuster, but they also had the added strain of setting up numerous future ventures. One of the funniest moments in the film came courtesy of Thor and Star-lord bickering over control, which suggests that Thor is going to be a crew-member for the next Guardians instalment. He’d be a welcomed addition to the team, and such efforts as Thor: Ragnarok and Spider-Man: Homecoming have previously made the most of crossover appeal; we expect this will too.

It’s fun to imagine what Thor can bring to the table in the third instalment, but it’s also hard to envision the series without Gamora’s presence. She’s a fond favourite of the MCU and a key player in the Guardians series, but sadly she was sacrificed by Thanos for the soul stone in Infinity War. She did appear in Endgame, but only because of the narrative’s utilisation of time travel. Could we see her return?

During an interview with Business Insider, the Russo’s were asked about Gamora’s whereabouts at the end of Endgame, and whether her pre-Guardians character vanished along with Thanos after Iron Man’s snap. “We don’t know whether she was dusted or whether she survived,” admits Joe Russo. “That’s probably a question that Guardians [3] will answer.”.

Star-Lord was seen scanning the computer screen in search of her, so there’s hope that she remained while Thanos and his army perished. It hasn’t been confirmed yet, but we suspect Gamora will play yet another important role in the latest instalment; perhaps just a little later in the narrative than usual.

In other news, will the MCU finally fix the Mandarin in phase 4?
