Peterborough United chairman Darragh MacAnthony claims Ivan Toney is worth more than four times what Newcastle United sold him for now.

Posh paid Newcastle £650,000 for Toney last summer (Chronicle) and he became their main marksman this term.

The powerful forward netted 23 goals across all competitions and enjoyed a very productive campaign after leaving St. James’ Park.

And MacAnthony has suggested that Toney is now worth a sizeable amount more than what Newcastle sold him for.

Peterborough are likely to have to fend off offers for Toney this summer.

Posh have a track record of selling strikers for big fees, with the likes of Britt Assombalonga, Dwight Gayle and Jack Marriott all leaving London Road for bigger teams in recent years.

Toney arguably would never have quite had the talent to make it at Newcastle, but it does seem that the Magpies did not maximise the value of the asset they once had in their ranks.
